A super-sharp image, perfect contrasts and rich of colors – a 4K experience of the highest class. Movies or games will be shown UHD quality with the UHD40 which is not only price unbeatable, but also very quiet compared to other devices. There are hardly any fan or operating noises to be heard, so that nothing stands in the way of an undisturbed movie enjoyment.

Passion Home Cinema
June 2018

"The UHD40 succeeds to reproduce every single details of our UHD pattern with XPR treatment of 4K simulation. I really like the manufacturing quality, the quiet operation and the colour accuracy. There is also great sharpness of the image which is great"

Home Cinema Choice
May 2018

"As hoped for, the UHD40 delivers excellent levels of detail and sharpness with my Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle 4K Blu-ray."

"Motion looks impressively natural too suffering minimal judder and no significant blurring even during the high octane helicopter chase sequence."

In summary for its group test, Home Cinema Choice awards UHD40 the group winner:

"Sneaking into first place by a nose is the pricier Optoma UHD40. Its extra setup flexibility is a major draw amidst these relatively casual projectors. Most importantly, its extreme sharpness and uniquely high brightness help it to unearth that little bit more what the 4K HDR format is all about."

The Optoma UHD40 is a projector that brings top-tier technology to a lower price bracket – and implements it very well indeed. It’s no understatement to say that rival manufacturers are going to have a hard time trumping this performance.

Colours are vivid, yet realistic; there’s lashings of detail; and motion remains silky smooth. There’s no other way to say it: the Optoma UHD40 is a simply outstanding budget projector.

So rich in detail, texture and clarity are the UHD40’s pictures that it’s almost impossible to reconcile them with the projector’s £1599 price. The UHD40 delivers this remarkable detail without exaggerating grain or causing stressy edges, either.

The UHD40 also manages to deliver a greater brightness lift with HDR sources than I’d have expected from such an affordable projector.

There’s no blockiness, striping or blotching with HDR colours – even over the skin tones or skyscapes that commonly cause striping issues with HDR TVs.

For much of my time with the UHD40 I had to keep pinching myself to be sure I wasn’t dreaming that such a cheap projector could look so good.

April 2018

A UHD projector for well under £1,500, the UHD40 from Optoma is a cracking deal. It's pretty easy to setup, thanks to vertical lens shift, decent zoom range and acceptably versatile short throw lens, and the images it produces are a good notch above an HD projector of comparable price.

Naturally, you do get what you pay for to an extent, and this has nothing like the sheen of more expensive UHD projectors, while the HDR, while nice to have, doesn't pop like it does on the best 4K tellies and projectors.

However, for the price, and with viewing modes to suit most occasions, the Optoma UHD40 is a steal.

Amazing Image
Ross Pannell, Surrey : United Kingdom, January 2019.Purchased from Richer Sounds
The Projector produces an amazingly detailed image - fantastic for 4K sports and movies. A huge step up over my earlier projector. I did have some minor resolution switching issues but found a setting on my Virgin Box to correct that and now works perfectly
Optoma says...
To resolve the switching issues Ross changed the output to ONLY allow output of 2160p (uncheck all others including 2160p pass through). Only top option should be selected. All others cleared out.
