The UHD65 is a hugely enjoyable projector that manages to deliver very good images in both ambient light and blackout conditions. Most projectors commit to one or the other, halving their versatility.

Though the UHD65 sacrifices both ultra-high brightness for daytime viewing and completely convincing black levels in a blackout, it's actually giving as close the 'best of both worlds' as any projector could: From upscaled HD TV channels and DVDs to Netflix 4K and a Ultra HD Blu-ray discs, few users will have complaints about the cleanness, detail or colour of the UHD65's images.

The picture is amazing.  It is stunning.

You definitely get that feeling of being in the cinema.

Another great feature fir the UHD65 is the ability to have PureMotion. PureMotion smooths out the image so that you don’t get that juddery effect which you sometimes do with cheaper and more inferior projectors. It creates a nicer watching experience especially when watching sports or movies.

Most people will be blown away with the 4K image.

It does deliver an incredible picture.

The Digital Fix
October 2018

It's a mid-range 4K device with an impressive specification and even more impressive results.

Blacks are black, whites are white and every colour between is accurately reproduced.

Everything we've thrown at it has been handled wonderfully. While the colours looked great in HD, they were truly astounding when HDR was thrown into the mix with the added depth bringing about something that was as lifelike as we've seen. The added detail brought by the increased resolution made for an end result that was better than any cinema showing we've seen.

The UHD65 is an impressive projector by any measure and the best we've seen with a conventional lamp.

“The UHD65 has an excellent working frame interpolation which brings football games and sporting events to life. The UHD65 also has very good color management"

The best-value 4K and HDR beamer for a proper cinematic experience

We’ve never seen another projector perform this well at this price, with carefully balanced colours and oodles of detail.

Even when you drop down to Blu-ray discs’ Full HD resolution you’ll still be greeted by an enjoyable and insightful image that scales up admirably to well over 100 inches in size.  At those dimensions there’s an indescribable drama to the viewing experience that a telly can’t recreate

Optoma projectors are known as DLP devices, which are usually better optimized for home theater usage than their competitors. Also the UHD65 sets itself apart from others through its special features. The UHD65 has good motion playback and is not too saturated in HD colors. Optoma has expanded the quality of the DLP devices with the UHD65.

March 2018

“The UHD65 is a very good projector. It is very hard to find a better image quality for the price range and certainly not in 4K resolution."

The Optoma UHD65 is a fantastic 4K HDR projector with clear, crisp, bright colours and is great for anyone who wants to watch movies or game on a large screen.

January 2018

“The Optoma UHD65 is a 4K projector with a stylish design. Thanks to the black housing, this one-chip DLP projector is highly recommended for the dark home cinema. The generous zoom and the small lens shift make the final image orientation on the screen pleasantly easy. While black level and (on / off) contrast are still bit of improvement, the UHD65 impresses with its fantastic detail and a very good sharpness. The primary and secondary colors succeed perfectly with regard to REC.709 standard. All in all, the Optoma UHD65 is made for a high-resolution feature movies and exciting sports games at home - and the projector is also pleasantly quiet.”

“The detailed sharpness of the Optoma UHD65 is excellent and exceeds clearly the JVC DLA-X5900.”

Picture detail is unquestionably high. The projector looks particularly fine with the 10-bit 2160p output from a Sky Q set-top box. Star Trek Beyond is hugely engaging in terms of fine picture detail and colour vibrancy; Warcraft shows a mesmerising amount of texture and fine detail.

It’s often difficult to appreciate the resolution boost offered by 4K UHD on a relatively small UHD TV. However, supersize your sources to 100 inches plus, and the extra detail and depth becomes wonderfully self-evident. This Optoma does a marvellous cinematic job, particularly with the likes of Sky Q and streaming 4K dongles, as well as regular Blu-ray. Plus, colour fidelity is lush. It’s also compact and respectfully quiet in operation.

The Optoma UHD65 is an exceptional value for the feature sets that it delivers. It has superb image quality for projectors priced in the mid-$2,000 range thanks to it's 4K capabilities, suitably dark blacks, and rich, vibrant color. The Optoma UHD65 has the key strategic advantage of excelling at 4K HDR. Even with its default settings, it delivers more-than-acceptable picture quality with HDR, and any tweaks you make to improve it get saved and automatically loaded every time it detects HDR input. The UHD65 also features a beautiful frame interpolation system that works extremely well with both 1080p and, notably, 4K."

Because this is a single chip projector compared to the three chip D-ILA, 3LCD and SXRD competition, the UHD65 is very sharp with excellent edge definition without using any processing at all. Colours to the Rec.709 standard are also accurate producing a nice looking image with believable skin tones and no signs of posterisation with subtle changes in hue over a large area of the same colour, such as blue skies.

“Optoma’s UHD65 is capable of massive cinematic detail and vibrant colour”

“Overall HDR performance is fabulous though -thanks to its peak brightness of 2,200 lumens, the upfiring lights in the catacomb action sequence of John Wick 2 display the right amount of intensity.”

“In terms of picture quality, this is cracking.”

“This projector has amazing sharpness.”

“Exquisite image for bright and mixed scenes”

“With PureMotion, fluidity is really excellent, whether in 1080p or in Ultra HD.”

“Dynamic Black is so helpful for good black levels and contrast that I strongly recommend you use it”

“ANSI contrast is good from 300:1; well the Optoma UHD65 is a champion in this area with 520:1 after calibration. This is a very satisfying point because it obtains this image radiance specific to the best DLP.”

Optoma UHD65 Home Theater Projector Comparison: Epson Pro Cinema 4040

“With good 4K source material, the Optoma UHD4K clearly has better detail and sharpness. It also has the benefit of almost no visible pixels lines or screen door effect.”

“...Optoma was able to reproduce detail in the star field that the Epson simply could not. We concluded that this was a very good image to show the difference between 4K e-shift which is 4 million pixels vs. the Optoma with its 8 million pixels delivered to the screen. You can clearly see many, many stars that are just not visible on the Epson."

June 2017

“You want the ultimate home theater system? Then you want the Optoma UHD65. This projector is currently the best on the market. It supports all of the latest standards including UHD and 4K, and Optoma’s advanced smoothing system makes your video look amazingly natural.”

“Of course, any 4K projector can display high levels of detail. But the UDH65 has a trick up it’s sleeve. It’s got a 1,200,000:1 contrast ratio. This means that the brightest whites are 1.2 million times brighter than the darkest darks.”

“This is truly a projector for the avid film buff, and we can’t recommend it enough.”

After owning a high-end projector for 15 yrs.decided to buy a new one.read reviews on a lot of projectors and decided to go for optoma uhd65 dlp also bought a high quality 10 m hdmi lead to go with it and can't believe what I 've been missing.picture quality is awesome and comes with a built in speaker which gives me a rear centre speaker to add to my surround sound, really has upgraded my home cinema experience.
Nice but issues...
Jay, Toronto, Canada, January 2018.Purchased from Consignia
Developed a hot pixel in the middle right. Contacted Optoma but warranty requires shipment back — which from Canada runs about $70 for such a heavy item, the packaging requirements, and tracking. Had many Epson projectors before and the one time I had an issue, Epson send a packing label and box for warranty service.

The Optoma is fantastic and inexpensive for what it is, but beware if you have issues!
Best deal around!

I received the UHD65 two weeks ago and have now spent hours viewing it. I must say the picture is amazing. I am using 137" diagonal (120" wide) AT screen and love the clarity and brightness of the projector. With HDR movies the colors are really fantastic. Really shows the difference of 4k UHD over 1080 HD. That said, 1080 HD still looks amazing on the UHD65. I decide to wait for this projector to be released over buying a different one. Very glad I did now. Very easy to set up and use. Great value.
