Packing in support for HDR video, Alexa, and Google Home integration alongside wider IFTTT support and speakers that sound leagues ahead of any other projector we've used it's hard not to recommend this wonderful little machine.

Again Optoma have impressed - the UHL55 is one of the best devices we've ever tested performing flawlessly while offering enough bells and whistles to be considered as the best option for big-screen home cinema for almost all levels of enthusiast.

Overall: In the price range nothing touches it. The UHL55 offers an unsurpassed picture quality, pin sharp 4K resolution and even throws in smart home support. A stunning projector.

Android Headlines
July 2019

This projector is a true 4K projector, so it's not a faux 4K projector like many of the others on the market, and that explains why it is a grand. It's 1500 lumens, so it's going to be pretty bright too, great for those that watch movies on this during the day as well (with the blinds closed of course).

Optoma has added both Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant support to this projector, which makes it a pretty impressive one to pick up. You can use your voice to turn on the projector and adjust things like the volume and the brightness. This is going to be a great projector to use outside this summer, and watch some movies.

Optoma UHL55 A Stunning 4K Projector with Google Assistant & Alexa built in

The UHL55 delivers 4K images that really do stun and the colour reproduction is absolutely incredible.

The audio on this is absolutely brilliant. It’s one of the best speakers we’ve seen in a projector so far.

It’s very quiet in operation.

Overall, I have been really impressed with the UHL55. I think it’s a great machine.  It delivers the most incredible picture.  And with those voice assistants built in that means it gives you far more control and takes you to the future maybe of what projectors will be looking like.

May 2019

“The Bluetooth connection can be used so that the UHL55 can be used as a Bluetooth speaker with the picture turned off, and with speakers with two times 8 watt, it actually sounds pretty good.”

“Another advantage is the energy efficiency of the LED lamp. This means that heat generation and thus the need for fan cooling is minimal. This in turn gives a projector that neither warms or sounds very much, and which uses minimal power consumption.”

“The picture is really impressively steady and sharp.”

“Optoma UHL55 is a smart and exciting projector for the home.”

AV Forums
March 2019

Overall, the Optoma UHL55 is designed to fit a certain role as a home entertainment 4K projector and it does this as well as we would expect. The design is unique, the LED light source and instant on/off work well with the portability aspect of the design and it has a fantastic 3D performance. If you're looking for such a device, you should really check out the UHL55 and see if it will fit with your goals for a fun and capable home entertainment machine

Colours for SDR content were realistic and natural with good skin tones and well-saturated colours.  Switching to HDR content, and again, the Optoma manages to play back sharp and detailed images with excellent colours and no signs of posterization or banding of colours.  This is a cracking little projector

The ULH55 is a great projector with great displayed imagery and video footage, it offers streaming possibilities and there is no rainbow-effect.

AV Forums
March 2019

AV Forums discussed the UHL55 in its podcast.  They said:

It has a really clever auto focus.  It uses a laser and it is absolutely spot on. The auto focus works great.  It is DLP, so it is sharp anyway.

Its an LED light source. Instant on and instant off is great. This is the beauty of laser and LED light source.

3D is the strong point on this projector.  Stonking! It is really well done. It was bright enough. The picture processing was really quite nice.

Overall for what it does, and the price, it has decent speakers built in. Optoma has thought about logistics and ergonomics and the image quality is decent.

It’s got a lot of things that far more expensive projectors do not have.

The Telegraph
February 2019

The image quality is good enough to make this one a TV killer

The projection is crisp, picture perfect, and colourful. It even has the high dynamic range of most top television sets to ensure you see the colours just as the filmmakers intended you to. It really does feel like an at-home cinema.

The Optoma is easy to use, with a remote and Amazon Alexa or or Google Assistant at hand to adjust the settings and focus.

There’s also a full range of smart TV apps like Netflix, Amazon, and YouTube built-in to the device, which means it’s ready to play out of the box. Just like a TV should be.

February 2019

The UHL55 can stream via a Smartphone or another external Media player. Overall, this is a very good projector!

January 2019

You can use the Optoma to project images in 4K resolution with 1,500 lumens and four different HDR10 picture modes. It is built with the Android OS so it has access to the same apps you'd find on a smart TV, the Optoma Marketplace app, and the InfoWall app, which creates a customized information display using your projector. It's also smart enough to work with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. The UHL55's RGB LED light has a 30,000 hour life, so it should last a very long time. Other features include Bluetooth, Stereo NuForce Audio, and Dolby Digital. The auto focus and auto keystone help make it easy to find the perfect spot.

“The UHL55, is a very quiet device. It produces beautiful sharpness, smoothness and colour performance. We really like the price point and that this is the first compact smart 4K projector with image precision and colour performance after calibration.

November 2018
Despite its not inconsiderate image talents, it's the voice control feature that the UHL55 will live or die by. The good news is that in our test with an Amazon Echo Dot the UHL55 excelled.

The projector follows in the footsteps of their first smart projector, the Optoma UHD51A, with its Alexa Voice Control function integrated into the projector itself. The Optoma UHL55, also 4K, has a unique, compact design that makes it a great addition for smaller spaces, and a great conversation piece due to its shape and style of the chassis.
